On our trip to Las Vegas this year I wanted to try something new and different. While our men were busy with meetings during the day, I thought it would be a great time for me and Kat to take a drive to the Red Rock Canyon and go hiking. We headed down to the lobby at 10 am where a hotel limo was waiting for us, have you ever went on a hike in the limo? Lol me neither! 🙂 Just 17 miles drive west from the Las Vegas strip and you are in a whole new world of the Majave Desert. It was raining when we left but when we got closer to the mountains the sun came out and we must have seen at least four rainbows on our way. We thought it must be for good luck.
When we got to the Red Rock Canyon I couldn’t believe how much snow was in the mountains and how cold it was! For Miami girl anything below 65F is cold, and it was 49F! We weren’t prepared for that weather and didn’t bring any warm jackets, so we were freezing in our little Lululemon sweatshirts. Regardless of the cold, we stopped at few places until we found a suitable place where we could walk closer to the mountains and take better photos. To our luck, the wind stopped while we were walking and we were able to walk around a little bit while admiring the beauty of the desert and tried to capture all of it on camera. A piece of advice: be careful while posing next to the cactus and don’t try to touch it! It really is sharp LOL.
We were just brave enough to walk about a 0.30 miles away from our car to take photos and that was it, we didn’t want to meet face to face with a coyote and it started to rain again. I think we would have enjoyed a longer walk if it was warmer, but I am very happy we went and explore a little bit the Red Rock Canyon. I enjoy nature and all different types of beauty and there is something so special about desert and all the beautiful colors. When you need a break from the blackjack tables or need to get away from all the crowd — that the place to go!
