Today I want to share one of the fun activities you can do if you are visiting South Florida. First I want to say that I love nature and animals, so when I heard about a drive-through Safari Park in West Palm Beach, I knew I had to check it out. The best part is that I got to do that while my parents were visiting me from Russia (for the first time in Florida), so Safari was on the top of my to-do list with them.
The Lion Country Safari is one of the first drive-through safaris in the country, and I was amazed at how many animals were there and by how close you can get next to them. The park is 300 wild acres and divided into different regions. We were first greeted by rheas, pelicans, and llamas.
Then we drove through a metal gate with the sign warning us not to open our windows because we were approaching an African lion. The “Lion King” and his family were taking a leisure nap in the sun. More from that region we have seen Nile lechwe, the greater kudu, and impala. Next was the East African wildlife area with wildebeests, waterbucks, elands, watusi and different types of gazelles.
They saved the best for last, the animals from the western Zimbabwe were my favorite. We got so close to the zebras, watched a huge rhinoceros crossing right in front of our car and then we saw my favorite animal of all — giraffes! I don’t know why but I’m in love with them, and I couldn’t hide my excitement from how close we got to them and how cool they were acting. All in all, I think it took us about an hour to drive trough the whole park. You drive at your own pace and can spend the whole day watching the animals.
After you do the drive-through, you should go and explore their amusement park. It’s a beautiful park with a petting zoo, fun slides for the kids and my favorite of all was the giraffe feeding. I have been dying to feed my darling giraffes, and I loved the whole experience and just can’t wait to do that again!
Now I can’t wait for more family and friends to come visit so I can have another excuse to go back there 🙂
